From Morocco to Görlitz: Imane and Yassine find their calling

Imane and Yassine not only share their Moroccan heritage, but also a deep-rooted passion for helping others. In March, they came to Görlitz to begin training as nursing professionals.

It is a calling

Imane is 26 years old and has a bachelor's degree in economics. But she's more interested in humanitarian aid than economics. After training in a nursing home, she knew this was her true calling: "Working directly with people and helping them motivated me to continue down this path." She learned about the opportunity to train as a registered nurse in Germany through a Facebook ad. "That sounded very interesting, so I started learning German. The recruitment agency Jobventure helped me with the application process." Jobventure placed Imane and Yassine at the Görlitz Hospital, which they are both very enthusiastic about.

Yassine, 24, gained extensive nursing experience after graduating from high school. The desire to help people and the need for a meaningful and fulfilling profession have always been paramount in his career choice. The internationally recognized healthcare system, the excellent career prospects, and the high quality of training were reasons for him to come to Germany. Furthermore, his brother is pursuing his doctorate in Germany and strongly recommended that he train as a nurse here.

Yassine describes the application process as simple and well-structured; the support from Jobventure and the Görlitz Hospital was extremely helpful. Preparations included language courses and the recognition of qualifications.

With patience and support

The first few days and weeks were a huge challenge for both of them: a new country, a different culture, and yes – above all, the language. “The biggest challenge was the language barrier. I’m trying to overcome it by constantly learning new words and speaking a lot of German in everyday life, at the hospital academy, and with patients. I just need time,” Imane explains. Yassine adds: “Every day I try to significantly improve my language skills by reading, talking to people, and watching films.” Both are very grateful to their colleagues on the ward and at the hospital academy because everyone is helping them overcome the language barrier.

Morning meetings, patient care and support, including monitoring vital signs and administering medication, participation in training sessions and classes, documentation of nursing interventions, and assistance with examinations and treatments – the daily routine of the two trainees is fulfilling. "The balance between theory and practice is excellent. The theoretical content is complemented by practical exercises and clinical experience, which deepens understanding. Overall, this balanced approach helps prepare me well for professional practice," says Yassine.

And what about the future?

Imane dreams of specializing in nursing and staying in Germany long-term, ideally at the Görlitz Hospital. Yassine also wants to develop professionally, perhaps specialize in a particular area, and likewise sees his future at the Görlitz Hospital.
