Buyan Li's musical journey to Görlitz
Baritone singer Buyan Li has found a new artistic home in Görlitz. He came to Germany in 2013 to further his vocal training. Since 2023, he has been a permanent member of the Gerhart Hauptmann Theatre ensemble in Görlitz.
Li has a preference for serious operatic roles, but also shows great talent and enjoyment in comic parts. At the Gerhart Hauptmann Theatre, he has already delighted audiences in short operas such as "The Telephone" and "Susanne's Secret." Most recently, he could be seen and heard in one of the leading roles of "Billy Crocker" in this year's summer theatre production "Anything Goes.".
The contrast between the hectic life in Beijing, where the young singer was born, and the tranquil atmosphere in Görlitz could hardly be greater for Buyan Li. In Beijing, everything is fast-paced and stressful, but "anything is possible at any time, whether it's shopping at midnight or ordering food at four in the morning," he explains. In contrast, Görlitz is very quiet and offers a relaxed and friendly environment. Li appreciates this peace and quiet, but he also visits his hometown every year. "But one month in Beijing a year is enough for me," he adds.
Buyan Li's journey from Beijing to Görlitz is an inspiring story of talent and perseverance. Being part of the ensemble at the Gerhart Hauptmann Theatre in Görlitz is not only his personal success story: his performances also enrich the city's cultural life.
