Between classroom and old town charm
What draws a young teacher from the big city back to Görlitz? For Patrizia Kepstein, it was more than just love of home – it was a conscious decision for quality of life, family, and professional fulfillment.
Where memories reside and new beginnings
Patrizia lived in Potsdam for seven years – but Görlitz never truly let her go. Today, the 28-year-old teaches at the Königshufen primary school and has found a new routine in her old hometown. A decision she hasn't regretted for a second: "I came back because Görlitz is where I live. This city is strongly influenced by my family and friends – and that's precisely what makes it so special to me. Today, I feel at home in Görlitz again."
Returning after completing her teacher training in 2022 meant not only a professional but also a personal homecoming. Less commuting time – more time with family. Birthday celebrations at her grandparents' house, spontaneous outings, short distances – moments that often fall victim to busy schedules in big cities. And finally, there's time again for her hobby: dancing.
A job with prospects
Patrizia works as a class and subject teacher at Königshufen Primary School. The modern facilities and the dedicated staff make her daily work special: "The digital equipment is an incredible step forward – it allows us to work even more creatively and design varied lessons."
But a teacher's daily life consists of much more than just teaching. Project organization, parent-teacher conferences, individualized support, and continuous professional development are all part of her job: "I'm passionate about it and find it fascinating how differently children develop – it challenges us, but it's also incredibly motivating." Collaboration with colleagues and external specialists plays a central role for her. This close coordination helps to provide the best possible support for each child and to foster individual learning paths.
Evening with a view of the old town and sea air
What does Patrizia particularly appreciate about Görlitz? The quality of life – in every respect. Not only the short distances, but also the variety of leisure activities and the historical flair: "The old town is simply beautiful – a walk there never feels ordinary. And Lake Berzdorf is quickly reached, perfect for relaxing or for sporting activities."
For Patrizia Kepstein, one thing is certain: Görlitz is not just a place to work, but a place to live. And consciously and with joy. She hopes that even more young teachers will find their way to Görlitz – and contribute fresh ideas to its further development: "I would be very happy if more young teachers completed their teacher training with us. I am happy to support them – together we can achieve a lot."
